What is a waste transfer note?
If your business creates waste or you are a waste carrier you will need to know how to complete a waste transfer note (WTN).
A WTN is a document which outlines the transfer of waste from one person to another e.g. producer to carrier. For this reason you will need to ensure all transfers are covered by a properly completed WTN.
However, an alternative to raising notes for single transfers is by covering them through an annual WTN.

Here are the key elements of a WTN…
- A description of the waste stream
- Any processes which the waste has been through
- How the waste is contained
- The quantity of the waste
- The place and date of the waste transfer
- The name, address and signature of the waste producer and carrier
- Details of the permit, licence or exemption of the person receiving the waste
- The EWC code for the waste
- The SIC code of your business
